Bil-Jax products have passed the ultimate test in stability after standing strong in an aftershock from last Friday’s earthquake.

Friday’s 5.2-magnitude quake has not caused any reported injuries or major damage, but has been the cause of over 20 aftershocks. Some of these aftershocks have been recorded as strong as 4.6 on the Richter scale.

“The amount of aftershocks is unusual [for most modern Illinois earthquakes] but not of concern,” according to News-Gazette.com. “Most modern Illinois earthquakes have had few or zero significant aftershocks.”

John Zumwalt of Chapel Hill Commercial Group in Hannibal, MO experienced one of the stronger aftershocks firsthand. He had rented a Bil-Jax Summit Series 5533A and was elevated in the basket at the time of the aftershock.

“I was approximately 40 feet in the air when an aftershock of 4.5 hit. I felt the basket rocking for a short time, but thought I had pulled too hard on what I was working on or had been hit by a cross wind,” said Zumwalt.

“You cannot recreate the actual effects of an earthquake,” said Jason Pickles, product engineer for Bil-Jax. “Safety comes first in all of our product designs. We take the national codes and go one step further to ensure the safety of our products and all who use it.”

It was not until later that Zumwalt realized what had happened when he had been elevated. He said he is very thankful for the stability.
