Bil-Jax Employee, Family & Friends Recycling Day

Bil-Jax is holding a company wide recycling day on Saturday September 6th, 2008 from 9a.m. to Noon.  If you have never recycled before, Bil-Jax’s Green Committee challenges you to see how much recyclable material you can keep out of your household trash and ultimately out of our city landfills.  By decreasing household garbage output, you may also see significant savings in garbage bills. You only have a few weeks to start saving your recyclables, so get recycling!

Helpful Hints:

  • You do not have to remove plastic lids from containers
  • You do need to remove metal caps from glass containers (throw metal caps away)
  • Please keep paper and cardboard as clean and dry as possible
  • You do not need to remove staples from documents/papers
  • Remove newspapers from plastic bags and any rubber banding
  • Please empty remaining liquid from bottles and cans
  • Give tin/steel food containers a quick rinse (don’t waste too much water doing this)
  • You may leave paper labels on food cans
  • You can mix all paper-newspaper, magazines, loose paper, etc.  Just place it all together in a box or container.
  • If you are worried about sensitive documents, please shred them ahead of time or do not bring them in.  We will take no special measures to protect your information

If you have items you would like to recycle but that are not acceptable for this recycling event, please refer to earth911.org.  This website will help you find local stores, organizations and locations that can further assist you in your recycling efforts.

Bil-Jax Green Initiative Releases First Progress Report

ARCHBOLD, OH – The Bil-Jax Go Green Committee has released its first report of progress for 2008. The report shows several positive improvements, including a reduction in solid waste and a substantial increase in materials recycled.

In its first month, Bil-Jax employees recycled 3.67 tons of material, according to Go Green Committee member Cari Weidner. “This translates to an energy savings of nearly 12,000 kilowatt hours, and about 30 cubic yards of material kept out of landfills.” Weidner also estimates that the volume of cardboard recycled equates to more than 50 trees. Additionally, paper towel dispensers in all lavatories throughout the plant have been replaced by reusable cloth towels, and hand sanitizer is now widely available to employees as an environmentally friendly alternative to soap and water.

Weidner estimates that the company’s expanded recycling program, a partnership with Defiance, Ohio based Werlor Recycling, will result in a 50-70% reduction in solid waste.

Interested parties can continue monitoring the progress of the Bil-Jax Go Green Committee by visiting www.biljaxgogreen.com or www.biljax.com/gogreen.
